BEEF BY THE SHARE
Fill your freezer from a farm you know.
Buying beef by the share is the most direct way to put local beef on your table. You reserve a portion of one animal raised on our farm, choose how it's cut, and bring home months of meals at once.
HOW IT WORKS
Four steps from pasture to freezer.
If you've never bought beef this way, it can seem complicated. It isn't. We walk every first-time buyer through it, and we're glad to answer questions at any point.
-
Reserve your share
Tell us whether you'd like a quarter, half, or whole. We'll confirm availability, expected timing, and any deposit needed to hold your spot.
-
We schedule processing
When the animal is ready, we take it to a local custom processor. You're buying a share of the live animal, so the beef is processed for you and your household.
-
You choose your cuts
You'll fill out a cut sheet with the processor: how thick you like your steaks, how many roasts versus ground beef, and how it's packaged. We'll help if you're unsure.
-
Pick up and stock up
Your beef comes back cut, wrapped, and frozen. You pick it up and take it straight home to your freezer.
SHARE SIZES
Which share is right for you?
Every animal is different, so these are honest estimates rather than promises. We'll give you the real numbers once your animal is processed.
| SHARE | ESTIMATED TAKE-HOME BEEF | FREEZER SPACE | A GOOD FIT FOR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quarter | About 100 to 120 pounds | About 4 cubic feet | A couple, a small family, or first-time share buyers |
| Half | About 200 to 240 pounds | About 8 cubic feet | A family of four or more, or two households splitting the cost |
| Whole | About 400 to 480 pounds | About 16 cubic feet | Large families, or friends dividing it several ways |
Freezer tip: a typical chest freezer holds 5 to 7 cubic feet, and the freezer on a standard refrigerator holds about 4 to 6. A quarter usually fits in a small chest freezer with room to spare.
HOW PRICING WORKS
No surprises on the total.
Beef shares are usually priced in two parts, and we'll walk you through both before you commit:
- The beef itself, priced per pound of hanging weight. Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after processing begins but before it's cut, trimmed, and wrapped.
- Processing, which covers cutting, wrapping, and freezing to your instructions.
Take-home weight is always less than hanging weight because of bone, fat trim, and moisture loss. That's true for every share of beef sold anywhere, and we'd rather explain it up front than have you surprised at pickup.
When you reserve, we'll give you our current price per pound, the processing costs, and an estimated total for the share size you choose.
WHY SHARES?
Why we sell beef this way
Selling beef by the individual cut requires processing at a USDA-inspected facility. Selling a share of the live animal lets us work with a local custom processor instead. It keeps the process small and local, and it means you decide exactly how your beef is cut.
Beef processed this way is for your household's own use. It's labeled "not for sale," and it can't be resold.
BEEF QUESTIONS
Before you reserve.
How far ahead should I reserve?
As early as you can. We raise a limited number of animals, and shares are filled in the order reservations come in. We'll give you an honest estimate of timing when you reserve.
Can I split a share with someone?
Yes, and plenty of families do. Two households splitting a half is a great way to get started. One person should be our main contact for the reservation and pickup.
What if I've never filled out a cut sheet?
Most first-time buyers haven't. We'll help you through it and suggest a balanced mix of steaks, roasts, and ground beef if you'd rather not decide every detail.
How was the animal raised?
On our farm in Leesville. Ask us anything you'd like to know about how our cattle are raised and fed, and we'll give you a straight answer.
Save your spot for our next beef.
Reserving doesn't charge you anything today. We'll confirm the details with you personally.
